NLP, Lying, Honest Discussion and the State of Wisconsin Politics
One great use of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is programming your own behavior. Typically this is used to improve performance. Brain Tracy talks about improving self esteem simply by stating over and over again the phrase "I like myself, I like myself...". This concept has even been lampooned by Al Franken in the SNL skit with the following quote, "Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and, doggonit, people like me!" This technique, often referred to as affirmations, works. Be careful however, because this format works in the negative as well. You may hear hear people criticize someone with the following statement, "He/She is beginning to believe their own press clippings!" This can even be abused when people continue to lie to themselves. Eventually the subconscious believes the lies and adapts them as true stories.
Now we return to current happenings in Madison, Wisconsin. We have great examples of the inability to communicate. We have lost the ability to have honest, respectful discourse. The sad part is that when you listen to many of the people interviewed, they have no personal knowledge and understanding. They only have second hand reports which are more bullshit than truth. The Bullshit is then cloaked in their intense emotion. As they say on Monday Night Football - "Come on Man!" Let's have honest discourse! Then you combine misinformation with the prior concept of believing a lie (NLP) and there are too many people going around with intense emotion that is based on false beliefs. There is not much difference from this state of belief and being indoctrinated into a cult ...
